What is lyophilized powder?

Lyophilisation is freeze-drying. The peptide is frozen and the water is removed under vacuum, leaving a dry cake that is far more stable than a solution.

Why peptides ship dry

Peptides in solution degrade — they hydrolyse, aggregate, and oxidise. Remove the water and most of those pathways stop. That is why a lyophilised vial can travel across the world without a cold chain, while the same peptide in solution would not survive the trip.

What the cake should look like

  • A white to off-white cake or fine powder.
  • It may sit as a solid disc, or as loose powder that shifted in transit — both are normal.
  • A film on the vial wall after shipping is normal and dissolves on reconstitution.
  • Yellowing, stickiness, or a partly liquid appearance is not normal.

A cake that looks 'smaller than expected' is usually correct. 30 mg of peptide is a very small amount of material by volume.

What happens when you reconstitute

Adding bacteriostatic water rehydrates the peptide back into solution. From that moment the stability clock restarts and the vial belongs in the fridge. The dry cake was the stable state; the solution is the perishable one.

Frequently asked questions

Is it a problem if the powder moved around in the vial?

No. Transit vibration commonly breaks the cake or leaves powder on the vial wall. It dissolves normally.

Does lyophilised powder need to be refrigerated?

Refrigeration at 2–8 °C protected from light is the standard for long-term storage, but short periods at room temperature during shipping are expected and tolerated.
